Kasey’s Capsule Wardrobe Part 1 – Jacket

Wardrobe planning is the best way to build a wardrobe with clothes that fit your lifestyle.  Kasey is starting on her wardrobe planning journey with 4 pieces. This is a great way to try the process.  Her first piece is a linen jacket.  Thanks, Kasey for sharing!

Some of the Fashionistas will recall my capsule project from last fall, where I shared my fabrics and ideas in sew-and-tell. This jacket is the first part of that capsule wardrobe. It’s Simplicity 2154, a jacket I have made twice before. This time it’s in a wonderful ruby red linen, lined with navy charmeuse (Sold Out). I chose charmeuse for a couple of reasons; my capsule wardrobe is one meant for travel, and I tend to be cool rather than warm on planes and car trips. I also wanted a nice transition piece for fall and spring here in the Houston area, and the linen and charmeuse combine for a nice weight.

Ruby Red Linen

This pattern comes together very quickly, and this time I remembered to put in a hook and eye closure (it hangs well generally, but tends to blow open in a breeze.) I also used some stay tape along the shoulder line and behind the pocket seams, just to make them a little more stable.

I embroidered the jacket with a design I digitized myself – I took the design from the printed fabric that is also part of my capsule.

If you’d like to see more details about the embroidery process, see my blog, embroiderybykasey.com.
Stay tuned for part 2!
