Wardrobe Planning with Ann: Sailor Jeans

Jeans are a big part of the life of a Mom-on-the-go but you don’t always have to wear traditional jeans!  I had planned these jeans for Ann before COVID-19 was on the scene. Now that she is at home (like the rest of us) with the husband and 3 kiddos, these jeans are going to be in heavy rotation!

I knew once Ann finished her red linen sailor shorts that they would look great as jeans.  Try to reuse a pattern more than once.  Especially a pattern that you have successfully altered.  Get inspired and make minor style adjustments or use different fabrics to create a new look.  I already have an idea for a 3rd look!

Making a mood board like Ann’s will give you lots of ideas for the details!

Fabric
Of course, the fabric of choice is denim.

Muslin Stage

Having the fit perfected through the waist/hips made the muslin process go quickly with no tweaks.  Ann used a pair of pants from her closet to design the flared pant leg.  The muslin was needed to check the fit of the leg and the flare at the hem.
Using the muslin for the pattern.

Practice makes Perfect!
This is Ann’s first time making a pair of jeans!
She practiced inserting an exposed zipper…..

….and the pockets/buttonholes.
