Stepping Out in Dark Floral Fashion

“Sometimes the answer to refreshing your wardrobe is making one thing that sparks a dress in your closet.”

Burda Style 4/2016 127

Here I am stepping out into the sunshine in Burda Style 4/2016 127. This is a shawl collar jacket pattern with an extended facing that folds back. The pattern can be made in a variety of fabrics and has two different sleeves to choose from. This jacket is made with Large Floral Bouquet Stretch Cotton Sateen from Sew Much Fabric. The floral print has every color you can imagine and adapts to highlight whatever color you wear with it.

I plan to dry clean this jacket, so no prewashing of the fabric was done. In preparation for sewing, the fabric was well steamed with my steam iron. The fashion fabric was underlined in cotton batiste to minimize stretch and provide a little more structure to the jacket. This is what I call an “air conditioning jacket” something that is required inside in Houston because we “love our Air Conditioning.”

This jacket has given new life to existing pieces in my wardrobe. I have two sheath dresses, one yellow and one chartreuse, that have a whole new look with this new jacket. Jeans and t-shirt or floral pants in Petite Floral Vine Stretch Cotton Sateen are also possible combinations for a capsule wardrobe built around this jacket. It is a great way to embrace a new trend without having to make a completely new outfit.

Thanks for sharing this Eileen!  You did a beautiful job making this jacket.  Love the print placement!!

Love this jacket in the dark floral print that is so “in” right now. I can see how it could be worn with so many other garments already in one’s wardrobe.
