Wardrobe Planning with Ann: Summer’s LBD

Ann has a new summer LBD!  This dress was needed for last-minute summer invites and date night with hubby.
But of course this dress has lots of versatility- it will also serve as a swimsuit cover-up and a duster.

Eyelet says summer so it was a great option for this LBD.  This eyelet is 100% cotton and has a beautiful scallop border that frames the neckline nicely.  And black is a great backdrop to show off bold accessories.

Ann started with her block that she used for the red lace top and skirt. The neckline was changed from jewel to a deep V.  The skirt morphed into an A-line and was also lengthened into a maxi.  Ann decided to use a concealed button front for ease of getting in and out.  The waist inset with a tie belt defines her waistline.

Ann’s mood board is always the jump-off point for inspiration.  Details that we love are incorporated into the final garment.  This is how Ann’s personal style comes to life.

Muslin Stage

After we decided on the design changes Ann made the muslin.
The only tweaks I suggested was to bring in and raise the armhole.

Details
The scalloped edges were used at the neckline and sleeve hem.

The concealed snap buttons.

Ann also created button covers to use when the dress is worn open.
Watch Ann’s Youtube Video here for a demo on making theses.

The seams were incased with bias tape.

And of course, pockets!!
