In South Texas our weather is warm then hot with a big dash of humidity so cool summer dresses are a must-have! Because our warm weather season is long, we need to beef up Ann’s closet in this area. With this in mind, the first summer outfit is a classic summer silhouette-a camisole and button front skirt. (The Black/White Cotton Eyelash Check is now sold out) (Product images are clickable)

The fabric is Black/White Cotton Eyelash Check (Sold Out) lined with Dove White Cotton Shirting. The geometric print is timeless and works well with our color capsule which is black, white and red.
The skirt pattern is McCalls 7906 and the camisole is a copy of a RTW top. I liked the A-line silhouette of the skirt as well as the front pleats.
However, Ann’s waistline would be lost with the “paper bag” look. She needs a defined waistline for her rectangular body shape, so I suggested a waistband instead. Making small style changes to a pattern can really improve the look for your figure type. I also added about 5/8” at the center front to make a little more room in the abdomen area.
Ann did a poll on Instagram (@youtiquebridal) and asked which side of the fabric she should use–(A) the smooth side or (B) the eyelash side. In the end, we decided on the smooth side (A) to keep the look timeless. Remember, the “right” side is whatever side serves you best!
We tried different hem lengths with flats and heels and decided on making the hem a few inches below the knee.
