Pattern Review Vogue 8488
Dark Chocolate Eyelet
57″
100% Cotton
$11.00
Prewash: cold water perma-press cycle, dry on perma-press
This shrunk only 1 inch in length. I also had to press before cutting out.
Notions: Gutermann thread, 18″ invisible zipper, Sewin’ Sheer interfacing, stay tape, lining
Alterations: I did a FBA by adding 3/4″ in width and 1-3/4″ in length to make sure the bodice seam fell below the bust line.
Adding length to the bust caused the waistline to drop to low. A simple shortening of the length at the waistline took care of that. I eliminated some of the fullness of the skirt by tapering down to a size 6 at the hips and continuing to the hem.
Construction: I usually vary from the instructions. I like to sew the front completely, the back completely and then the side seams. This allows for easier alterations if any are needed. I applied Sewin’ Sheer interfacing (a sew-in interfacing) to the zipper area.
I also used Stay Tape at the neckline to prevent any stretching. The lining is a cotton broadcloth from my Mom’s stash.

Conclusion: Got to love a summer dress with a full skirt-good air circulation!! Add a jacket to kick it up a notch. View C may be in my future.
