Prewash: Cold water, permapress cycle; Lay flat to dry.  This fabric shrunk 3 inches in length and none in width.

Notions: Gutermann thread and stretch needle

Alterations: I’ve made this top before.  The alterations are noted here.  The big change this time was turning this top into a dress.  I used Vogue 8593 a knits only pattern like the top.  I also liked the fitted skirt portion of the dress.

Trace the skirt portion of the dress from the waistline down.

Match the waistline of the top with the waistline of the dress.

You now have your dress pattern.

Construction Details: This dress is very easy and very fast to sew.  3-1/2 hours from cut out to hem.

I serged all seams.

Collar

Pleats of the collar in side seam

1/2″ double stitched hem for sleeve

1″ single stitched hem

Conclusion: This fabric was a good weight for this dress.  The beefiness of the knit helps the collar stand nicely.  I’ve made the top twice.  Now that I’ve turned it into a dress I’ll probably make it 1 (ok, probably 2) more time with short sleeves for the summer.

Roz – great looking dress! Gotta love the black pumps. The fabric does really well with that top.Ronnie
