Pattern Review, Burda Style 1/2008 #109
Veronica is back and has done another great skirt pattern review.
The pattern for this skirt is from Burda World of Fashion 1/20008-109. It is drastically modified due to an error on my part. The skirt is without the waistband, which I mistakenly believed to be a facing. The pattern was altered based on a muslin to lengthen it the width of the waistband. All of the seams were taken in at the waist to accommodate for the lack of a waist band. It is lined with light grey Bemberg rayon. I did not add the pockets and moved the invisible zipper to the side seam.
The fabric is a stretch wool from Sew Much Fabric (sold out) that was a dream to work with. It is so soft and has a very nice hand. It was perfect for this pattern. The fabric and lining was washed in my front load washing machine on the hand wash cycle and then laid flat to dry. After drying it was heavily steam pressed to effect any shrinking that might occur.
The waistband was faced with preshrunk and shaped 1-1/4 inch rayon grosgrain ribbon as described by Sandra Betzina in “Power Sewing Step by Step”. I really like how this technique turned out.
I believe that I will get lots of wear out of this lovely skirt, if only I had 20 year old legs again, not that I want to be 20 again!
Thanks,Veronica! You look wonderful!
Roz,I forgot to mention that I used the grey rayon tape to finish the hem. duh!Ronnie
