Pattern Review with Beverly

Recently Beverly stopped by the warehouse to get her “fabric fix”. Beverly is an instructor in Fashion and Retail Management at the Art Institute of Houston. She recently was awarded Faculty of the Quarter for Winter 2008. She is also writing a text book to be published by Fairchild this fall. More on that later!! She was wearing an outfit made out of a silk tweed she purchased from us several years ago. I had my camera so opportunity presented itself. Here is what Beverly had to say about her suit.

Vogue 7859 (OOP)

Fabric: 100% Silk Tweed

Prewash: Dry clean

Notions: Gutermann thread, Polyester lining and fusible interfacing (can’t remember which one)

Alterations: The only alteration was the length of the jacket. Since I’m short, I reduced the length by 1 inch in the front and back so that it would hit my waistline properly. The fringe was made by using a piece of fabric about 3 inches wide on the selvage and measuring it to fit along the length of the jacket. The selvage edge was sewn into the facing seam and then fringed after all the construction was complete. With this method, I don’t have to worry about the yarns pulling out of the fringe.

The jacket is fully lined.

Conclusion: The suit is very comfortable. The colors are bright and easy to accessorize. I wear it to church and special events. I often wear the jacket with blue jeans and a solid color tee shirt.

Thanks Bev! You look gorgeous!
