Alterations: This is the journey Mary Jane took to get great fitting pants….
Mary Jane had already worked on the fit for the pattern. She sliced and spread the center front 3/4″ and added at the waist side seam 3/4″ tapering to 3/8″ at the center front seam.
She also added to the back waist side seam 3/4″ tapering to 3/8″ at the center back. The fit is good
Mary Jane attended a Sandra Betzina seminar wearing her pants. She asked for Ms. Betzina’s opinion on the fit. Ms. Betzina suggested on her next pair of pants Mary Jane should use size D for the front and size C for the back. With this new information added to her previous alterations the fit is better.
Next Mary Jane asked Cynthia to make the latest version of these pants. I noticed when we looked at the muslin that the legs were too tapered. Cynthia added to the hem 5/8″ on the front side seam and inseam and 1 3/8″ on the back side seam and inseam.
The fit is now what Mary Jane was striving for!
Conclusion: Sometimes it takes more than one try and help from others to achieve success with your project. Mary Jane now as a TNT (tried and true) pant pattern. You’ll see this pattern again in a lovely dark olive wool.
