Summer is here and a quick and easy skirt pattern is a necessity! And when I say quick and easy I mean quick and easy. There are only 2 pattern pieces for this skirt.Fabric: 100% Embroidered Cotton from the Spring 2007 mailer (see 4/05/07 entry).I prewashed the fabric in cold water and dried it on the permanent press cycle. The fabric shrinkage was 1 1/2″ in the length and width. In the future, I will alternate between washing and dry cleaning to keep the black background from fading.Notions: There were only a few-thread, 9″ invisible zipper and Easy Knit interfacing.Alterations: I shortened the skirt 3″ at the lower edge.
There are two design features that I like about this skirt. First is the A-line shape. This is a universally flattering shape and is very cool for hot and humid Texas summers. Second is the wide band at the waist.
The band helps to “hold things together” at the waist. Also the pleats do not start at the waist causing any unnecessary tummy fluff.
When skirts are this fast and easy you have to make more than one. I know I have a winner when my 17 yr old daughter wants one!
I just love the spring/summer fashions. This skirt affirms that! How chic and flirty! I have a skirt similar and can’t wait to incorporate more in my wardrobe. Nice job!
Thanks Prestonsbaby! You know, this skirt is so easy you should give it a try!
